Meet Tashana, footballer-turned-coach. During her first years as a young football player, the sport was ruled by men. So, it wasn’t easy for a young girl to make herself visible. Tashana was lucky to have a very strong mother who never told her to “just try something else.”
Throughout her career, her mother’s support was unwavering and at the times when it got rough her mother would always say, “Even when you’re down and in distress, never let Babylon know your weakness.” This is something she keeps with her to this day. Never show other’s that you’re down. Get up and conquer.
Tashana’s passion for football has opened many doors throughout her life. She was able to get a college education through a football scholarship. She has also traveled the world as a result. This is the message that she wants to give to her team and students: Find your passion in life and pursue an education. “Education is the easiest way out of poverty.”
She hustles constantly to bring the best to her players and community. She is currently working to raise funds to rebuild the school’s football field, as well as to purchase more equipment. As a teacher, she hopes to introduce other sports into the curriculum since not everyone is born a football player or a track star. She wants to empower her students to find what they’re good at and work hard. “Stick to what you’re good at and try to maximize on your potential in whatever are you are good at. With your talent and an education, you can go far.”
Tashana’s hustle is one that takes up 7 days out of the week. Between coaching, teaching and practice it would seem that there is no time to rest. Yet, she is an active member of her community, constantly working to unite and raise her neighborhood.
Hustle on with Flow, Tashana.
